How are you?

I am fine, thanks for asking, how are you too?

Oh great, how’s your family as well?

Etcetera etcetera. When asked how are you in most conversations, an auto responses give, is usually I am fine, or good, or am okay. I don’t know about you, but that auto response is always on my lips.

So this morning, a friend asked me, how are you? Hmmm, I decided to think about it for some seconds, then I responded saying;

I am hung-over from sleep.

Which was exactly how I felt at that moment. I had taken cough syrup the previous evening around, told myself mentally that I was going to get some sleep till, then wake up to work online. The earliest I ever go to bed most nights is, but I ended up sleeping from about till this morning. Even I was scared, I guess my body was angry.

So; I am going to ask you right now the same question I was asked this morning.

  1. I’m doing great…especially now that I have a cup of coffee in my hand! I have to do housework (ick) because family is coming to visit later on this week, and I have to mentally prepare myself for the crowds that I’ll encounter next weekend at a gaming convention. So I’m enjoying as much alone time as I can possibly get, for now!

    How was your weekend, and how is your day going?

    1. Niceee. Always good to have family over for a visit, and am sure you will have a good time at that gaming convention, I miss having a console πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ Am good too, about to prepare dinner for 3 babies in the house. They say they want custard, rice, Garri, cornflakes, etc for dinner, they don’t know what they want yet. I shall find them something good to munch on.

  2. I get sleep deprived from time to time, but I think your sleep pattern is worse than mine. πŸ˜€
    If anything, it’s always good to ask people “How are you?”. The answer is not just from the words responded, but it can give hints on how the question is answered. And from time to time, you get a different answer, just like the one you gave. Even the question itself is not the sole essence. The fact that you are asking “How are you?” might tell the other person that you are willing to listen, are okay or open to talking to you, or better yet, are concerned about you. πŸ˜‰ If anything, it’s always good to ask people “How are you?”.;)

  3. I love this question. It’s different everywhere in the world. In the UK people might ask this in passing, and the accepted social convention for a British person is to respond by moaning about the weather. Yet Australians use this as a hello, they always look a little taken aback if you answer anything other than “yeah, good thanks mate, you?”. New Zealand seems to be a bit of a mixed bag…
    Anyway, in answer to your question, I am hungry, a little sleepy and definitely looking forward to the weekend but I’m overall very good, thank you for asking. But I am British at heart, so the weather freaking sucks.

      1. Wow, were you on an all-nighter? Those sound like my kind of hours sometimes. We got new pillows and I’m sleeping better, though. πŸ™‚ Hope you get some sleep! πŸ™‚
